My God Is Stronger

If you’ve ever faced a situation that provided an opportunity for fear and dismay, you’ve got plenty of company. One guarantee in life is that, at some point, we’ll all have to deal with adversity that seems insurmountable. One difference between believers and the rest of the world is how we respond to trouble. When others panic, we can stay calm in the knowledge that our God is well able to handle the problem better than we can.

The devil uses dangerous situations to threaten us into losing courage and shrinking back in terror, but God is bigger than any threat that comes our way. We’re more than conquerors when we allow Him to go before us. God gives us a full hedge of protection by going behind us as well, and actually completely encircles us with His presence. The creator of the universe is on our side, so we don’t need to be afraid of anything or anyone. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

Our thinking determines whether we win or lose the battle. No matter how big or ugly the problem looks, we don’t have to let it intimidate us. We’re woefully inadequate to handle anything on our own, but with God on our side, we don’t have to. “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace’” (Exodus 14:13, 14, NKJV). God protected His people when the Pharaoh of Egypt came against them; when we hold our peace and trust God, He’ll fight our battles, too.

We don’t have to meekly put up with the devil’s onslaughts when we’re empowered to go on the offensive and take the battle to the enemy. When trouble comes knocking, we’ve been authorized to fight back and win. As children of God who know the spiritual laws of supernatural protection, we have the advantage. “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:18-20).

The author of strife, confusion, and fear is no match for our God. The enemy has no power over us when we trust in the Father’s ability and willingness to go to any length to protect His children. “Say to God, ‘How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you’” (Psalm 66:3, NIV). God has seen to it that our adversaries have already been crushed.

Any strength and protection we have comes from God. When we remember where our help comes from, we can stay focused without falling apart in our day of adversity. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10, 11). Nothing can topple God. When we count on His strength instead of our own, we’ll always come out on top.
