Our Protection and Preservation

Believers may be well-acquainted with the protection and preservation God provides, but sometimes we can forget just how complete it actually is. Living according to His will and trusting in Him protects us from external danger and evil repercussions from others’ actions. The world doesn’t have this level of protection. God allows us to make our own choices, but sometimes we can be our own worst enemy; when we find ourselves in trouble because we chose to ignore what the Holy Spirit told us, He still comes to our rescue when we call to Him for help.

God loves us enough to protect us from ourselves. Most of us have had the experience of making a bad decision even when we knew better, and suffering the consequences. When we put ourselves in harm’s way and we’re unable to climb out of the pit we’ve dug, He delivers us. This is a lifetime promise.
“Even to your old age I am He, and even to hair white with age will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear; yes, I will carry and will save you” (Isaiah 46:4, AMPC).

God takes the covenant between us seriously, and He’ll always uphold His part of the bargain. However, we also have a role to play in this agreement. God blessed us with wisdom and discernment to avoid making bad decisions when we rely on Him. We’re responsible for exercising common sense in everyday situations.
“Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things” (Proverbs 2:11, 12).

Wisdom from God gives us a direction that the world doesn’t have. It guards and guides us along safe paths in life and warns us against wandering off those paths. However, the choice of whether to heed what He says is completely up to us. When we don’t listen to what He says, we move out from under His umbrella of protection.
“Forsake not [Wisdom], and she will keep, defend, and protect you; love her, and she will guard you” (Proverbs 4:6, AMPC).

We have authority over the enemy, but we mustn’t get careless or overconfident in our Christian walk. The devil is always plotting and devising ways he can lure us into a trap or lead us into a harmful situation. Making decisions based on our own limited knowledge and understanding can cause us to fall. Trusting God in all our decisions keeps us on solid ground.
“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

God’s grace is always available to us, and this grace rescues us even when the trouble we get into is our own fault. He protects and shields us, and if evil
does befall us, He plucks us out of it even when we don’t deserve help. We have His emphatic commitment that He’ll never leave us in the midst of trouble. “…For He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” (Hebrews 13:5, AMPC).

We can rest knowing that God gives us perfect protection from danger, with no chinks in the armor. When we’re in Him, supernatural preservation surrounds us. We walk in peace and safety.
