The God of No Limitations

May. 30, 2018 | By Taffi Dollar

We all want abundant, prosperous lives, but many people may not know how to claim this type of success. As a result, they can limit themselves by falling into the same rut that most of the world is stuck in. Wrong-thinking is the biggest way we set limits for ourselves, but there’s no need to place any limits on our lives. Learning what God says about us breaks the shackles and frees us from self-imposed limitations.

In the Old Testament, the children of Israel lived under the curses that resulted from Adam and Eve’s sin, and there were barriers between them and God. No one could keep the entire Law of Moses; the people were held down and prevented from rising above their daily struggles. “The skies above will be as unyielding as bronze, and the earth beneath will be as hard as iron” (Deuteronomy 28:23, NLT). The people were forced to depend on their own self-efforts to be blessed, which severely limited them. They were accustomed to hard labor with nothing to show for it, and many of them turned away from God thinking He was angry with them. “And it shall come to pass, that as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it” (Deuteronomy 28:63).

When Jesus came, He repealed the curses and removed the limitations for those who believe in His finished works, making it possible to live under the blessings. No longer do we have to do good to get good, because faith has now replaced self-effort. “…Anything is possible if a person believes” (Mark 9:23, NLT). If we belittle faith and discount the importance of believing, we limit ourselves needlessly. Believing God positions us to receive what we prayerfully ask of Him.

Christ has removed all limitations at every level, in both the natural and the supernatural, and given us authority that people under the law don’t have. “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). There’s no lack or insufficiency in heaven; we don’t have to tolerate it because lack isn’t God’s will for us. If we’re not aware of this, we can live below our true potential. A sub-standard life isn’t God’s best, and it’s not what He wants for us.

Under the old covenant, the devil had the authority and he used it to make people’s lives miserable. Because of Jesus, everything has changed and we now have the advantage. “…I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:18-20). Jesus is joyful and victorious and we can be also.

No longer do we have to submit to the limiting “I can’t” mindset when we know otherwise. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13, NKJV). God has no limitations and neither should we. We’re free to go above and beyond.
