For the week of December 18, 2017 Biblical Equality

When we look at the broken relationships in the world, we can be thankful that we have an alternative to what we see. In the beginning, God made Adam and Eve as equals; they had perfect relationships with each other and with Him. When sin destroyed that special bond and Adam and Eve’s relationship became unequal, God showed favor toward mankind and He refused to let things stay that way. Jesus came and restored gender equality, so that men and women could once again have co-dominion over the works of God’s hands.

Under the old Law of Moses, patriarchal attitudes were accepted without question, and women were seen as inferior. There was a clear distinction between males and females, and the genders were treated differently. The finished works of Jesus radically changed relationships between men and women. Under the present covenant of grace, the clear message now is that God shows favor impartially, regardless of gender.

This God-given equality is no small thing. We were made in God’s image, and Jesus was not only a human being like us, but was also the Son of God, equal to Him in every way. The world’s mindset is against the type of biblical equality that levels the playing field between men and women and gives both genders access to God; but when we begin learning to think like Christ, we see God’s original plan for our lives. This plan puts both males and females on equal footing in His eyes.

When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, Satan stole something valuable—something God originally intended for mankind. The enemy stole the peace, unity, and equality found only in a relationship with God. Because of Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the cross, peace with God has been restored, and the partition separating men and women from Him is no more.

Prayer:

Lord, You made it clear through Your Son that inequalities are not Your will. In You, we have the freedom to be who you called us to be, no matter who we are. In Jesus’ name, thank You. Amen.
