For the week of April 23, 2018 The Grace Gift of the Holy Spirit

No doubt Christians who have received the Word and believe on Jesus have received salvation, but there’s still one more thing to receive that can set us apart from other believers. We may miss some hidden knowledge from God without a supernatural unseen partner: the Holy Spirit, whose mission is to lead, guide, comfort, and minister to us. He teaches us all things and brings to remembrance what we’ve already learned in the Scriptures, to help us apply those lessons properly and as needed.

We receive the Holy Spirit as a grace gift from God when we get saved; the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a completely separate experience. The Spirit helps us to speak directly to God by interceding for us and helping us pray the perfect prayer when we don’t even know how or what to pray. Without a relationship with the Holy Spirit, we may not have access to secret wisdom that comes only from Him. After becoming a believer, Paul wrote to the church at Corinth that speaking in an unknown tongue allows a man to speak mysteries, and praying this way allowed his spirit to pray while his understanding was unfruitful.

When things are going on with us that we don’t understand, praying in the Holy Spirit reveals answers not obvious to our intellectual minds. Getting a response back from Him is unmistakable, and often His answers to us are amazingly clear, specific, and detailed. It happened with the instructions God gave to Ananias and Saul after Saul met Jesus, and can happen with us in our everyday lives. When we put our understanding on hold and simply trust the Holy Spirit, He takes us to a higher level.

Prayer:

God, many in the church today don’t understand or even know the Holy Spirit. They’re unaware that He was sent to help us deepen our relationship with You by helping and guiding us in the things of the spirit. Thank You for removing the fear and misunderstanding about Him. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Scriptures:
