Perfectly Protected

It’s a scary world we live in. Turning on the news every day brings constant reports of violence, frightening diseases, and economic uncertainty. Focusing too much on the bad things that happen to others can cause panic and fear in us. Thankfully, the believer who has a relationship with God and who has faith in His promises of divine protection has peace in the midst of it all.

The danger we face is real; however, God’s protection for those who trust in Him is also real—and more powerful. Regardless of what’s going on, there’s no reason for us to be afraid. But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!(Isaiah 54:17, NLT). God is emphatic about this. When things begin happening, He’ll never let us down; we therefore can have full assurance of His protection.

Others have to rely on their own efforts and hope that their own devices won’t fail. By comparison, we have safety from God, Himself. He protects us better than anything on earth can. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust’(Psalm 91:1, 2, NKJV). When we feel overwhelmed, we can hide in Him knowing we’re perfectly safe.

People who don’t a have a relationship with God and don’t know His nature are susceptible to doubting His commitment to protect us. This is because they’ve become too accustomed to the world’s crooked, perverse way of doing things. It’s commonplace in our environment to see people who say they’ll do something but later go back on their word. We can confidently believe what God says because He never goes back on His Word. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19).

Promises like these are the things the devil doesn’t want us to believe. He tries to lead us away from God and cause us to begin questioning the truth of His Word. This is never a good place to be; it opens us up to fear, which allows the enemy to enter in and begin terrorizing us. Running to God shields us from fear and from Satan’s lies. “I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4).

Although the world walks in a constant state of fear, we don’t have to go down that same road. Fear robs us of the joy God wants us to have and cripples us spiritually. The most effective way to fight thoughts the devil tries to plant in our heads is to verbally confess that God is our protection. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:1, 4). Regardless of what we see around us, absolutely nothing can touch us when we let God lead us.
