For the week of September 10, 2018 From Seed to Root to Fruit

Spiritual fruit is the physical manifestation of everything good that God wants us to have. To see this in our lives, we must spend enough time in His Word to let it take root in our hearts. The Word is the seed that produces whatever we need for successful lives, but it must be sown into fertile ground. Understanding the process of unlocking the seed allows us to receive what grace has already made available.

Jesus used parables to teach the people the importance of sowing seed into good ground so they could benefit from it, and those teachings remain true for us today. If God’s Word isn’t rooted deeply enough in us, we’ll back off from it when we encounter persecution after hearing it. This persecution is a deliberate attempt by the enemy to prevent us from receiving God’s grace. The devil tries to distract us and cause us to take our focus off the Word, but a double-minded person is unstable in all his ways.

We don’t need to take on anyone else’s drama. We must be careful of what we see and hear around us. What we process through our eyes and ears affects our thinking and, ultimately, our hearts. We must guard our hearts with all diligence, because out of the heart springs the issues of life.

Our thoughts are powerful, and what we think about the most is the thing we will do. We guard against negative thinking by going to the Word and doing what it says. Meditating on whatever is true, honest, just, and of good report empowers us for success. God gave us the seed of His Word specifically so that we could bear fruit; what is hidden in it will eventually be manifested, if we receive it by faith.

Prayer:

God, Your will is for us to understand the true meaning of Your Word so that we can apply it to our lives and succeed. All our provisions are contained in the seed of Your Word. You sent Your Son to teach us how to sow it in receptive hearts to produce fruit. We’re grateful for what You did. In Jesus’ name, amen.
