For the week of February 11, 2019 Having Confidence in Jesus

If you’ve ever been in a situation where you didn’t feel confident, you may remember how frightened and insecure you felt. Confidence can make the difference between success and failure. This is true in every area of our lives, including our spiritual lives. When we have confidence in what Christ did for us, we position ourselves to receive everything He made available for us through His death and resurrection.

Our fearless confidence in God’s favor carries a great recompense of reward that we mustn’t cast away. Trusting in the finished works of Jesus allows us the peace of mind to rest in what He did to bring us success in our relationships, our finances, our health, and everything else that concerns us. We don’t have to work hard to add anything to what He did, because it’s enough. His grace is sufficient for us; nothing else is needed.

We can get ourselves in trouble, however, when we forget just how powerful our faith is. We mustn’t misunderstand the type of faith we need to position ourselves to receive from God. We don’t need “big faith;” Jesus told His disciples that faith as small as a mustard seed will work.

Consistency, not quantity, is the key to employing our faith in every circumstance, no matter what it looks like. When Peter walked on water to get to Jesus, Peter’s faith was strong. Peter sank only when he took his eyes off Jesus and regarded the circumstances. Jesus rebuked Peter because of his short burst of faith that didn’t endure.

Christ wants to have an effect on everything that matters to us. He can do so when we have confidence in Him; He becomes of no effect to us when we let doubt and fear push us from trusting in Him to trusting in our self-efforts. Our faith in Him gives us victory without the struggle.

Prayer:

God, the finished works of Jesus are all we need for success in life. We can have confidence in what He did, without feeling like we must add to it. Our faith in this gives us peace, and we thank You for it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
