For the week of April 24, 2023 Relying on God for Our Safekeeping

It’s a given that we all put our personal safety, as well as the well-being of our families and loved ones, at the top of our priority list. Feeling safe and protected from threats allows us to live our best lives. The challenge comes when navigating our external environment with all the potential dangers that can surface at any time. Depending on ourselves for safety always leaves us vulnerable; relying on God for this allows Him to demonstrate to us just how completely surrounded we are with an impenetrable wall of protection.

We’ve read about the strong towers and fortresses kings used to build as protection from enemies. They were made of the strongest stones, but required much human effort to construct. By contrast, God’s ability to provide for our safety is infinitely stronger. The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.

There will always be people who choose to oppose us and set themselves up as our enemy. However, God sees us as righteous when we trust in His promises, and He’ll never leave His righteous children open to attack. We won’t fear because we’re established in righteousness and far from oppression; whoever assembles against us will fall.

Much of the fear we can experience comes from wondering if we’ll have a safety net from the world’s harm and destruction. That’s never an issue with those who have faith in God’s grace. We haven’t received the spirit of bondage to fear, but the spirit of adoption that allows us to call God “Abba, Father.” The Spirit, Himself, witnesses to our spirits that we’re God’s children.

We always win when we trust in God. He’s our hiding place who protects us from trouble and surrounds us with songs of victory. Letting Him watch over us assures our peace and security.

Prayer:

God, our safety is in good hands with You. We can trust that You’ll never let us go or leave us in harm’s way. We’re grateful for the protection You provide. In Jesus’ name, amen.
