For the week of October 29, 2018 Responding to the Promises

God has made some amazing promises to us in His Word, but receiving them requires the correct response on our part. His grace has already made available everything we need to succeed in life, so when we encounter an issue, the first thing to do is to locate the specific Scripture that covers the situation. Constantly meditating on and pondering that Word makes our way prosperous and gives us good success. Attending to God’s Word, inclining our ears to hear what He says to us, and keeping it in our hearts gives us life and health.

When we ask God for guidance and He tells us the specifics of what to do to solve the problem, we mustn’t confuse works of faith with works of the flesh. In the Old Testament, when Samuel asked God whether to pursue the enemy after they attacked, God answered yes. When God tells us to reach out and pursue His promises to receive them, it’s okay to do so. This is an act of faith.

We can take our faith one step further by acknowledging that God is not only able but willing to bless us. When the leper came to Jesus and asked for healing, the leper questioned whether it was Jesus’ will to heal him. Jesus answered, “I will,” and immediately the leper was healed. It’s God’s will for us to be forgiven, delivered, healthy, prosperous, and victorious.

When Jesus healed the possessed boy, He told the boy’s father that if he could believe, all things are possible. He told His disciples that if they commanded a mountain to be removed and cast into the sea, and had no doubt in their hearts, they would have what they said. “Big faith” isn’t necessary; even faith as small as a mustard seed moves mountains if we’re willing to work it consistently. God’s Word is His will for our lives, and responding to it correctly positions us to receive the promises.

Prayer:

Lord, You made everything available to us that we will ever need to succeed and prosper. Our faith in Your promises is the key to receiving them. When we pay more attention to Your Word than the situation at hand, we can see supernatural manifestations. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
