For the week of April 19, 2021 The Resurrected Life

We all want to succeed and experience good things in our lives. This is a basic human desire; however, whether or not we ultimately see success depends on how we read and interpret the Bible. This is something most people don’t know; they try to live life through their own efforts. Jesus’ death and resurrection replaced the requirement to perform with the requirement to have faith in Him. This provides us with everything we need.

In the Old Testament, fear and punishment were the motivations for people to follow all the commandments. If they had perfect performance they would be blessed; if not, they would be cursed. Disobedience to the law brought generational curses, down to the third and fourth generation. Religion still teaches us to think about God with this mindset, and how we think determines how we live.

The cross changed everything; for optimum results, we must now study God’s Word through the lens of grace, not through the lens of the law. This involves diligence in presenting ourselves approved to God, workers who are not ashamed and who rightly divide the Word of truth. Properly analyzing what we read reveals that not everything that was true before the cross is true after the cross. God isn’t angry with us anymore and we don’t have to be afraid of Him; His thoughts toward us are thoughts of peace and not evil, to give us hope for the future.

Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law so that we could now receive blessings instead of curses. He made it possible for God to be our Father instead of our Judge. God now makes His children great, blesses them, and causes them to be a blessing to others. When we’re struggling but failing and it feels like our lives are at a dead end, faith in Jesus and in His finished works breathes new life into once-hopeless situations.

Prayer:

Father God, we no longer have to work hard to do the right thing because we fear punishment. Your Son took all the punishment we deserved so that we could experience success and be Your children, through faith in Him. Thank You for Your many blessings. In Jesus’ name, amen.
