For the week of January 30, 2023 True Rest Concerning Our Healing

Staying healthy is something everyone aspires to but few have a biblical understanding of. When we’re sick, getting well is the top priority on our minds. Worldly wisdom says to go see a doctor or check into the hospital, which is what most people automatically do. However, healing comes by God’s grace, and He has empowered us to take possession of it for ourselves.

Good health is God’s will. There’s nothing wrong with seeing a doctor or filling a prescription, but God wants us to know that He’s the one ultimately responsible for our healing. Our faith in His Word concerning healing—not our actions—brings restored health. When the leper told Jesus that He could cleanse him if He was willing, Jesus responded that He was indeed willing, and subsequently healed him; faith in this is critical for the believer.

Jesus went to the cross for us to be in perfect health. We’ve been healed by His stripes. Believing this gives us peace of mind and rest from worrying about whatever disease may be going around. True rest is only found in Jesus; this includes relief from worrying about our health.

God’s promise of entering His rest still stands, and we must be careful not to fall short of it. Everyone has heard the good news proclaimed on God’s healing; however, this message is of no value to unbelievers, because they don’t share the faith of those who obey through their belief. We must therefore make every effort to enter into that rest.

God tells us directly that He wishes above all things that we prosper and be in good health. This is very clear, and we can’t simply dismiss something so straightforward. Prosperity in our bodies translates into good health. A solid understanding of God’s plans for us in this area prevents health issues from taking over our lives.

Prayer:

God, You’ve given us many promises, one of which is the promise of healing. When we understand what You’ve done for us, given us authority to claim perfect health for ourselves, we’ll never be sick another day in our lives. We’re thankful for this. In Jesus’ name, amen.
